What does cranial mean?

Craniotomy, as the name implies, is the opening of the cranial cavity and is a surgical step that must be performed in neurosurgery to remove intracranial lesions. The normal human cranial cavity is surrounded by multiple layers of structures, including the scalp, skull, and dura mater. The specific steps of craniotomy are to design a scalp incision according to the projection of intracranial lesions on the scalp, incise the scalp and lift the scalp to expose the skull, drill a hole in the top of the skull with an electric drill, and then use a high-speed milling cutter to mill open the flap of the bone, exposing the dura mater, and then cut open the dura mater to expose the brain tissues after suspension and fixation of the dura mater around the periphery of the dura mater to open up the cavity for surgical resection of intracranial lesions and to complete the craniotomy step.
