Parkinson’s disease exercise therapy

Parkinson’s disease is a disease in which the main clinical manifestations are motor retardation, muscle tonus, resting tremor and abnormal gait posture. Currently, drug therapy is the main treatment, but long-term drug therapy can lead to a variety of adverse effects, while exercise therapy, as an adjunctive treatment, has been confirmed by numerous studies, not only to improve patients’ motor function, but also to effectively prevent motor complications, and also to reduce the Parkinson’s disease drug doses and adverse effects. Studies have shown that moderate to vigorous exercise can reduce the incidence of Parkinson’s disease, that regular and appropriate exercise can slow the progression of Parkinson’s disease, and that stretching and resistance training can improve motor symptoms in Parkinson’s disease patients. Training such as gait training, forced movement training, and resistance training are very helpful in improving motor symptoms in Parkinson’s disease patients. In addition, tai chi, qigong, and boxing also show good prospects for application, which can move all joints and muscles of the body in a comprehensive manner, all of which can increase the balance function, mobility, and walking duration of Parkinson’s disease patients. Taijiquan, in particular, can effectively prevent falls and improve balance and postural stability in Parkinson’s disease patients.
