Effects of Rabies Immune Globulin

Rabies immune globulin is effective and works by directly neutralizing the virus and reducing the risk of infection. Rabies vaccine needs to induce the production of sufficient neutralizing antibodies to provide protection for the body, but it generally takes 1-2 weeks to reach an effective concentration, so the period between the first vaccination and the body’s production of sufficient antibodies is a high-risk infection period, and rabies immunoglobulin belongs to the passive immunity, which can be effective immediately after the injection to directly neutralize the virus and reduce the risk of infection. According to the Technical Guidelines for the Prevention and Control of Rabies (2016 Edition), for bleeding Class III exposure wounds or Class II exposure wounds of the head, face, neck and hand wounds, there is a high risk of infection, and both rabies vaccine and rabies immunoglobulin are needed for prevention. After being scratched or bitten by cats or dogs, it is recommended to promptly flush the wound with soap and water alternately, disinfect and clear the wound, and then go to the hospital in time for assessment of rabies vaccination and rabies immunoglobulin to avoid infection.
