What causes heart disease?

Heart disease is mainly categorized into congenital heart disease and acquired heart disease, and the causes of the two types of heart disease are different. Congenital heart disease is mostly due to heart damage caused by incomplete development during embryonic period or by viruses or injuries during embryonic period, such as atrial septal defect, ventricular septal defect, tetralogy of Fallot, and so on. Myocardial damage caused by acquired diseases is mostly due to myocardial damage caused by various diseases occurring after birth. For example, viral myocarditis caused by colds, hypertensive heart disease caused by long-term high blood pressure, coronary heart disease caused by coronary artery stenosis and occlusion. Heart diseases caused by acquired diseases include coronary heart disease, pulmonary heart disease, arrhythmia, myocarditis, endocarditis, pericarditis, etc. Different types of heart disease have different causes. For example, coronary heart disease and pulmonary heart disease are associated with narrowing of the blood vessels of the heart, while myocarditis, endocarditis and pericarditis are associated with infection. Meanwhile, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, diabetes, poor lifestyle, medication factors, smoking, excessive mental stress, anemia, and obesity are all important risk factors for heart disease. Therefore, there are more types of heart disease and many causes, and it is important to target specific causes for preventive treatment.
