How long can you run after ankle ligament tear needs to be decided according to the degree of damage to the ligament, mild patients generally need 6~8 weeks, and severe patients generally need 8~12 weeks.
1. Mild patients: ankle ligament tear is a relatively common disease in sports injuries, mostly caused by excessive intensity or unscientific sports. If the ligament is partially torn or slightly torn, which is usually mild, patients with slight tear can usually try running in about six weeks; while patients with partial tear need to be immobilized for four to six weeks, and they can usually try running activities in about eight weeks.
2. Serious patients: If the ankle ligament tear is more serious and there is a complete rupture, it usually requires surgical repair or reconstruction, and the affected limb needs to be immobilized for about 4~6 weeks after the surgery, but the speed of recovery during the rehabilitation period is much slower than that of the patients with mild cases, and most of the patients may need about 8~12 weeks before they can try running activities.
Patients with torn ankle ligaments are advised to undergo rehabilitation under the supervision of a rehabilitation physician to minimize the adverse effects of the disease.
