How long does it usually take to get better from a lumbar protrusion and leg numbness

After active treatment of lumbar protrusion and leg numbness, it usually gets better in about 1~3 months. However, a small number of patients may always have the symptoms of leg numbness.
Lumbar herniation refers to lumbar disc herniation, which is more common in middle-aged and elderly people. If lumbar disc herniation causes leg numbness, it may be caused by the herniated lumbar disc compressing the nerve root. Generally speaking, after active and effective treatment, it can be relieved in about 2~4 weeks, and can be well in about 1~3 months.
In a few patients, the symptoms of nerve compression are more serious, resulting in nerve ischemia and possible nerve degeneration or necrosis. In this case, leg numbness caused by lumbar disc herniation may persist and cannot be cured, and if necessary, surgical treatment should be considered in order to reduce or eliminate the symptoms of leg numbness.
If leg numbness is caused by a herniated lumbar disc, it is recommended to cooperate with a professional doctor as soon as possible for treatment, including medication and surgery, to improve or reduce the symptoms.
