Where is the site of intramuscular injection

The main sites for intramuscular injection are the gluteus maximus, upper arm deltoid, gluteus medius, gluteus minimus and lateral femoral muscle. Intramuscular injection is a therapeutic method of injecting medicine into muscle tissue through syringe, and then absorbing the effect. It is a common way of drug administration in clinic, usually choosing the part with thicker muscle, large muscle fiber, and far away from large blood vessels and nerves.
1. Gluteus maximus muscle: the injection area is selected in the upper outer quadrant, avoiding the inner corner, applicable to most adults.
2. Upper arm deltoid muscle: the injection area is 2-3 transverse fingers below the shoulder peak of the lateral upper arm, suitable for small-dose injection, as a preventive vaccination.
3. Gluteus medius and gluteus minimus: the adipose tissue is weak, blood vessels and nerves are less distributed, suitable for intramuscular injection in infants and young children.
4. Lateral femoral muscle: it is the lateral part of the middle thigh, suitable for injection of a larger area for multiple injections.
If the skin at the injection site is infected, hard nodules, wounds, ulcers, etc., it is not suitable for injection, and the injection should be carried out under aseptic operation to avoid excessive tension of the patient as much as possible.
After the injection, if there is any discomfort or adverse reaction, go to the hospital in time and let the doctor handle it to avoid any adverse consequences.
