The recovery time for adults with tonsillar suppuration varies from person to person and is mainly related to the effectiveness of treatment, and the exact time cannot be generalized. In adults, tonsillar suppuration is most often caused by untreated bacterial tonsillitis or by the use of antibiotics that do not effectively control inflammation. When tonsillitis develops into purulent inflammation, targeted medication should be administered for the specific pathogen, and antibiotics need to be switched when drug resistance occurs, usually for about 1-2 weeks of treatment before the pus can gradually subside. If there is an abscess cavity in the tonsil, surgical incision and drainage of the abscess cavity will be required, and antibiotics will be used after the cavity is closed for anti-inflammatory treatment, which will take longer. If systemic symptoms appear, systemic medication may also be required, and the treatment time may be extended. It is recommended that patients with tonsillar abscess avoid drinking alcohol, take more rest, drink more water, eat more vegetables and fruits, and abstain from spicy and stimulating foods to facilitate the recovery of the condition.
