What causes swollen gums?

Swollen gums, may be gingival papillitis, periodontal abscess, wisdom teeth pericoronitis, etc.. 1. Gingival papillitis: mostly caused by plaque infection, mainly manifested as swelling of most gums; a few caused by trauma, mainly for individual teeth. In the former case, it is recommended to carry out gingival cleaning (scaling), or remove the irritating factors, which can usually be cured. 2. Periodontal abscess: Commonly seen in the advanced stage of periodontal disease, where the alveolar bone around the teeth resorbs, forming deep and narrow periodontal pockets, and bacteria accumulate in the pockets, leading to swollen gums. Periodontal sequence treatment is required. 3. Wisdom tooth pericoronitis: Most modern wisdom teeth are blocked and the surface covers the gums. When resistance is low or oral hygiene is poor, the gums may swell and become painful. Wisdom teeth need to be removed after the symptoms are relieved. It is recommended to go to the regular hospital stomatology consultation, the physician examination to clarify the diagnosis, and the cause of the treatment.
