Normal body temperature for a 2-month-old infant is 36.5 degrees-37 degrees for anal temperature and 36 degrees-37 degrees for axillary temperature. Anal temperature best reflects body temperature, but in most cases, axillary temperature is more acceptable to measure. Fever is defined when the anal temperature is ≥38 degrees or the axillary temperature is ≥37.5 degrees with a fluctuation of more than 1 degree within 1 day. To determine the degree of fever based on axillary temperature, low fever is defined as a temperature <38 degrees; moderate fever is defined as a temperature between 38 degrees and 39 degrees; high fever is defined as a temperature between 39 degrees and 41 degrees; and extreme fever is defined as a temperature >41 degrees. The degree of fever does not necessarily reflect the severity of the disease.
