Finasteride can be used to treat BPH and should usually be taken for a long period of time, and if discontinuation is required, the drug should be used for at least 3 months after a reasonable assessment before tapering until discontinuation.
Finasteride may be taken with or without meals and should usually be taken daily for at least 3 months or longer until improvement in symptoms is observed, and it is generally recommended that it should be used continuously to maintain benefits, and if discontinuation of the drug is necessary, it should be tapered to discontinuation after a physician’s evaluation to avoid reversal.
Adverse reactions such as impotence, decreased libido, and ejaculatory disorders may occur during use of the drug. The drug is contraindicated in patients who are allergic to the components of the drug or who are pregnant. For patients with the presence of a large amount of residual urine and severe reduced urinary flow, care should be taken to closely monitor obstructive urinary tract disease, and note that the drug should be used under the supervision of a doctor.
If during the discontinuation of Finasteride, the patient has a reversal of prostatic hyperplasia, it is recommended to consult a doctor in a timely manner and follow the doctor’s instructions for treatment.
