What does glutamyl transpeptidase 293 indicate?

Glutamyl transpeptidase 293 U/L indicates a more serious condition. Glutamyl transpeptidase is a routine test in liver enzyme profile, which can reflect the degree of liver damage. Its normal reference value ranges from 10 to 60 U/L for men and 7 to 45 U/L for women; therefore, if the result of glutamyl transpeptidase is 293 U/L, which is significantly higher than the normal value, it suggests that the condition is more serious. Elevated glutamyl transpeptidase may be associated with viral hepatitis, pancreatitis, cholangitis, cirrhosis, primary or secondary hepatocellular carcinoma, etc. 90% of patients with cirrhosis may have elevated levels, especially in PBC and alcoholic cirrhosis. It is significantly elevated in combination with hepatocellular carcinoma. If the test result of glutamyl transpeptidase is abnormal, it is recommended to consult the doctor in time, after clarifying the cause of the disease, to carry out targeted treatment or therapy under the guidance of the doctor, in order to minimize the adverse effects of the disease.
