The indications for ultrasound-guided puncture of thyroid nodules are: thyroid nodules >1 cm in diameter, those with signs of malignancy on ultrasound, and so on. For thyroid nodules ≤1 cm in diameter, routine puncture biopsy is not recommended. Ultrasound-guided puncture biopsy may be considered for thyroid nodules ≤1 cm in diameter if one of the following conditions exists: Ultrasound examination suggests that the nodule has signs of malignancy. Accompanied by abnormal ultrasound images of the lymph nodes in the neck. History of radiation exposure to the neck or exposure to radiation contamination during childhood.
