Basic information】Male, 34 years old
Disease Type】Paralysis
Hospital】Guanganmen Hospital, Chinese Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine
Date of Consultation】January 2022
Treatment plan】Oral medication (Wutou Tang, Shu Feng Ding Pain Pill) + TCM physical therapy (acupuncture)
Treatment period】1 month of outpatient treatment, followed by discomfort
Results】The condition was cured, and the symptoms of joint pain, redness and swelling, restricted movement, and chills disappeared.
I. Initial consultation
The patient, a 34-year-old male, reported that three days ago, he suddenly felt joint pain and limited movement, and the joint pain was obvious, accompanied by fear of cold and redness of the joints, etc. After local warming, the above-mentioned adverse symptoms were somewhat reduced, but there was still discomfort and recurrence afterwards. The patient did not suffer from any previous diseases, had no recent fall experience, and had no history of drug allergy.
II. Treatment
The patient suffered from paralysis because wind, cold, and dampness attacked the body, causing blockage of the meridians and blood flow, resulting in joint pain, restricted movement, and other symptoms. I prescribed Wutou Tang, a medicine with the effect of warming the middle and dispersing cold and dampness, which can effectively relieve the patient’s symptoms caused by wind, cold and dampness, as well as Shu Feng Ding Pain Pill, which can improve the patient’s joint pain by activating blood circulation. In addition, acupuncture points such as diaphragm point, Guan Yuan point and Yang Ling point were also given to the patient during the treatment to accelerate local blood flow and unblock the surrounding meridians, thus promoting the improvement of the patient’s condition.
III. Treatment effect
On the third day of treatment, the patient reported that the symptoms of joint pain, restricted movement and coldness were reduced, and no other significant adverse symptoms were observed during the treatment period. After 1 month of treatment, the patient’s tongue was light red with thin white coating, and the symptoms of joint pain, restricted activity, redness, swelling and cold had disappeared, and the patient’s mental state was good, sleep and stool were normal.
IV. Notes
I felt very relieved to see that the patient’s condition decreased little by little. I repeatedly advised the patient that the medication prescribed by me should be taken in full amount and duration during the treatment period, and that he should not increase or decrease the amount of medication on his own, nor should he use other medication on his own, so as not to avoid conflicting effects, which would not only be detrimental to the improvement of the disease, but would even aggravate the disease.
At the same time, it is recommended that patients pay attention to keeping their bodies warm in order to prevent cold evil from re-entering the body and aggravating joint pain and other undesirable symptoms. During the period of illness, try not to overexert yourself and move your wrist and knee joints every day to improve the blood flow around them, thus helping to promote the recovery of the disease.
V. Personal insight
As in the case of the 34-year-old male patient, he suffered from painful joints, redness and swelling, restricted movement, and coldness due to the attack of wind, cold, and dampness, which affected his life. I also took care of the patient’s condition with Chinese medicine and physical therapy, and eventually cured the disease, which is what I hope to see most.
