A bulging mass on the back may be of soft tissue origin, such as a lipoma, sebaceous cyst or other fibroid, or it may be bony. You will need to see a physician for an initial determination of the origin of the mass in conjunction with a physical examination. If the mass is considered to be a soft tissue mass, the condition can be determined by ultrasound. If a bony mass is considered, local X-ray and, if necessary, CT and 3D reconstruction can be completed. For soft tissue masses, if they are large, such as larger lipomas or sebaceous cysts, surgical excision can be considered, with routine postoperative pathological examination. If the mass is relatively small and not significantly uncomfortable, it can also be followed up and observed. Bony masses that are benign and relatively small can be followed up and observed. If the mass is not excluded as malignant or is larger, surgical excision also needs to be considered.
