Rickets is a systemic chronic nutritional disease characterized by bone changes due to disorders of calcium and phosphorus metabolism caused by insufficient vitamin D. The main cause is insufficient intake of vitamin D, especially during pregnancy when the mother’s body does not consume enough vitamin D, resulting in insufficient vitamin D stored in the child’s body. Only by fully understanding the symptoms of rickets can a diagnosis be made faster and earlier to avoid delays. The following is a few of the early symptoms of rickets: 1. sweating, night terrors, crying, etc. The excessive sweating is not related to the climate. Due to sweat stimulation, the affected child often rubs the occipital area, forming occipital baldness or ring-shaped hair loss. 2, cranial softening as a symptom of early rickets, mostly seen in infants from 3 to 6 months. The fontanelle is large and closes late, and can close as late as 2-3 years old. The head is square cranial. Teething is late, and in severe cases, teeth are misaligned and enamel is poorly developed. 3. Ribs with pearls, thoracic deformities including pigeon chest and funnel chest may appear. 4.Lower limbs are deformed into O-legged, or X-legged. The wrist and ankle are enlarged, forming rickets “bracelet” and “foot bracelet”. Spinal curvature, scoliosis or retroflexion deformity, serious cases can also be seen pelvic deformity. 5, head lifting, sitting, standing, walking are late, joint relaxation and over-extension phenomenon, abnormal cerebral cortex function, slow formation of conditioned reflexes.
