Does flossing make the gaps in your teeth bigger?

There are two types of floss available on the market: non-waxed and waxed. If you are new to flossing, it is best to floss without wax. How many times should I scrape the adjacent surfaces of my teeth with floss? How many times do you have to scrape? The best indicator is to scrape until a “squeaky” sound occurs. It’s like the “squeak” we hear when we wash the dishes. You can easily hear this sound with waxless floss, while waxed floss must be scraped off before you can hear this sound. The difference between waxed floss and unwaxed floss in terms of cleaning effect is not much, but for ease of use and learning, we recommend using unwaxed floss. 1. Gently pull off a piece of floss (preferably unwaxed floss) about 30 to 40 centimeters long on the cutting edge of the floss, and roll the two ends on the middle fingers of each hand, leaving three to four centimeters of floss between the fingers. 2. Pull the floss tightly, and if using it on the palate, use the middle fingers of each hand to pull the floss tightly. If the floss is used on the upper palate, use the thumb of both hands to hold the floss against the teeth. For the lower palate, use the index finger of each hand to hold the floss. With one hand inside the mouth and one hand outside the mouth, carefully pass the floss slowly along the tooth surface in a sawing motion through the contact point between the two teeth to the bottom of the gum sulcus, then push the floss as close to the tooth surface as possible toward the crown and back several times. Use the same method to clean the opposite surface of the other tooth in the same gap as well as the surfaces of the other teeth. 3. When you need to use a clean section of floss, simply turn the floss on one middle finger tightly one turn. Every gap must be cleaned in this way. This action may seem complicated with the written description, but with patience and practice, you will be able to practice it and become comfortable with it. If you are not comfortable with it, you can use a flossing handle to hold the floss in place. 4. Do not insert the floss too fast, but slowly pull it in. 5. Rinse your mouth immediately after flossing.
