What exactly should diabetics eat?

We all know that if you have diabetes, you need to pay attention to some dietary contraindications, but what are the right things to eat? But what should be eaten and what should not be eaten? In some people’s mind, it is not clear. An improper diet is not only closely related to the development of diabetes, but also directly affects the blood sugar level of diabetics. So what should people with diabetes eat? On the eve of “World Diabetes Day”, the reporter interviewed Dr. Su Yong, deputy chief physician of the Department of Endocrinology of Henan Provincial People’s Hospital and Henan Diabetes Prevention and Research Center, and asked him to make a brief analysis of the problems related to the diet of diabetic patients. Reporter: What role does an unreasonable diet play in the development of diabetes? Su Yong: The formation of diabetes is the result of the interaction between environmental factors and genetic factors, with environmental factors being the external cause and genetic factors being the internal cause. Among the many environmental factors, unreasonable dietary structure plays an important role in the development of diabetes. The incidence of diabetes increases with the improvement of living standards, especially during the transition from poverty to affluence, which also indicates that the human body will gradually develop a saving gene if it goes through a long period of poverty. If the affluence is fully reflected in the diet, then the body will be obese, thus increasing the burden on the body, which will break the body in the long-term poverty stage of the formation of the conservation gene, resulting in the occurrence of diabetes. This is a reflection of the incongruity between the development of material and spiritual civilization in society. Reporter: There are many books on the market about diabetic diet, basically they are more or less the same, such as the use of calories, grams, etc. to determine the structure and quantity of the patient’s diet, patients follow to do, but blood sugar control is still not ideal, this is why? Su Yong: First of all, we must understand that books are written by people, so what is the level of the editor? What is the level of understanding and awareness of diabetes? Have they made clinical observations and taken into account individual differences? I met two diabetics who were very cooperative with the book. They bought scales to measure their food in order to control their diet. They also ate certain foods according to the book, but their blood sugar was higher. These two patients were very torn and came to ask me why this was. In fact, the organism is extremely complex system, human understanding of itself is still very superficial, the amount of diet is not only related to the body’s height and weight, but also related to the body’s constitution, such as: absorption status, for example, some people drink milk is very good, some people drink milk will cause diarrhea …… so, you can not mechanically copy the book, take yourself to do experiments. Reporter: In that case, how exactly should diabetics eat? Su Yong: In fact, there is nothing that diabetics can not eat, but we must pay attention to: high sugar content of food to eat less, low sugar content of food can eat more, it is best to eat more sunlight can reach the “green” vegetables, do not put too much salt and oil; eat less underground buried roots and plants. Don’t stop eating only when your stomach is bloated, and your blood sugar should not exceed 8 mmol/L 2 hours after meal. Second, try to drink less thin rice, eat less fried food, vermicelli and pumpkin, if there is steamed rice, do not eat steamed buns, when there is steamed buns, do not drink noodles, when there is noodles, do not drink thin rice, to avoid postprandial hyperglycemia. Third, no matter what to eat, how to eat, how much to eat according to their own body conditions to figure out a set of suitable diet rules, in short, to 2 hours after the meal so that their blood sugar does not exceed normal as the standard.
