Is it accurate to do a H. pylori test after taking omeprazole?

It is less accurate to do H. pylori test after taking omeprazole.
Omeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor, which can be used to inhibit gastric acid. Patients taking the drug before testing for H. pylori are prone to false negatives, which can affect the test results and is not conducive to diagnosing the disease.
If a patient is suspected to be infected with H. pylori, he/she should stop taking proton pump inhibitors such as omeprazole 2 weeks before the test, and it is recommended that he/she should not smoke and drink alcohol 3-5 days before the test, in order to get a more accurate test result. In addition, suspected infected patients should not take antibiotics and bismuth drugs such as metronidazole, erythromycin and bismuth pectin 4 weeks before the test, so as not to affect the test results.
Before testing for H. pylori, patients should follow the doctor’s instructions to make the relevant preparations, which is conducive to clarifying the condition.
