The normal value of vision for an eight-year-old child should be around 1.0 or 5.0. If it is significantly lower than normal, it means that there is some problem with the refractive system or the tissues and organs in the eye. If the child has low myopia, or farsightedness or astigmatism, he or she needs glasses for refractive correction in time. If the child’s visual acuity does not improve by more than 1.0 or 5.0 with glasses, the child may have amblyopia or organic pathology, and active treatment must be taken according to the cause. Amblyopia can be treated if organic eye disease is ruled out. If there are organic eye pathologies, such as fundus pathologies or cataracts, surgery is required.
