First aid for infant choking needs to be handled according to the severity of the condition. If the condition is mild, it is recommended to remove foreign objects from the mouth immediately; if choking occurs, the Heimlich maneuver is required.
Mild condition: stop feeding immediately; adopt appropriate position and pat the back, which can promote the milk to flow out of the corner of the mouth slowly without choking into the lungs; remove foreign objects from the mouth; and observe the baby’s condition.
More serious condition: It is necessary to use the Heimlich Maneuver for young children, and the steps are mainly five times of back patting and five times of chest compressions alternately until the foreign body in the trachea is spat out.
(1) Five back pats: Pick up the child, pinch both sides of the child’s cheekbones with one hand, put the arm against the child’s forehead, hold the back of the child’s neck with the other hand so that the child is face down on the rescuer’s knee, and use the root of the palm of the hand to tap the child’s back between the two shoulder blades five times until the foreign body is spit out. If it is not spit out, then use five chest compressions.
(2) five times chest pressure method: let the child lie flat on the rescuer’s thigh on the knee, face upward, the rescuer with the index middle finger two fingers on the child’s thorax under the umbilicus on the abdomen, fast upward pressure, pay attention to the strength of the moderate. See if there is a foreign body spit out, if not spit out, and then use five back patting method. So on and so forth.
Infants choking, if serious, in addition to self-help, but also need to call 120, as soon as possible to send to the hospital.
