Zhang Xichun’s Rui-Phlegm Tang is not intended to treat hot or cold phlegm. This formula is able to dry dampness and resolve phlegm (expelling dampness by drying dampness and resolving phlegm), treating dampness and phlegm in the chest and diaphragm, and so on.
This formula consists of Gorgon fruit, Semen Armeniacae, Cyperus Rotundus, Black Sesame Seed, Hang Paeoniae Alba, Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae, Poria, and so on, which can dry dampness and resolve phlegm, and move qi to subdue the rebelliousness of phlegm.
Li-Phlegm Tang can be used to treat chest tightness and shortness of breath caused by phlegm and saliva obstructing the chest and diaphragm; palpitation and insomnia caused by phlegm and saliva stopping in the lower part of the heart; wheezing (shortness of breath) and coughing due to phlegm and saliva stagnating in the lungs; bloating, vomiting and fullness caused by phlegm and saliva stagnating in the stomach; limb partial paralysis and numbness due to phlegm and saliva overflowing in the meridians and channels; and unfavorable flexion and stretching and painful traction due to phlegm and saliva stagnating in the joints and sinews. Adverse reactions are not clear.
When there is congestion of phlegm and saliva (abnormal phlegm, excessive production of saliva) and other physical discomforts, it is recommended to consult a hospital promptly, and the taking of Chinese herbal formulae such as Li-Phlegm Tang needs to be guided by a medical professional.
