Hearing screening for babies is only one type of screening and can be affected by a variety of factors that can affect the accuracy of the screening results. Parents should not be overly concerned if their baby fails the first hearing screening in both ears. It is recommended that the child be re-screened within 42 days; if the re-screening is still unsuccessful, the child should be referred to a designated hearing disorder clinic at a higher level hospital within three months for further diagnosis. If the child is diagnosed with hearing impairment, hearing intervention should be started immediately.
