What to do if your spleen and kidneys are deficient in dampness

Spleen and kidney deficiency with heavy dampness can be treated with Wu Pi San, Ling Gui Zhu Gan Tang, and Shi Spleen San. 1. Wu Pi San: It has the effects of inducing diuresis and eliminating edema, regulating qi and strengthening the spleen. It can be used to treat the water-stagnation and qi stagnation of Pi Shui (edema with swelling of the whole body, scanty urination and abdominal distension as the main manifestations). Swelling of the whole body, heaviness of limbs, distension of the heart and abdomen, shortness of breath, dysuria, and edema in pregnancy. 2. Ling Gui Zhu Gan Tang: It has the effect of warming yang and resolving phlegm (warming yang qi in the body to promote the metabolism of water and fluid), strengthening the spleen and inducing dampness. It is mainly used to treat phlegm-drinking (pathological products formed by impaired metabolism of water and fluid) with deficiency of Yang in the middle. Symptoms include fullness in the chest and hypochondrium (chest and ribs), dizziness and palpitation (rapid heartbeat, often accompanied by panic), etc. If the evil of drinking turns into heat, coughing and phlegm may result. This formula is not suitable for those who cough up sticky phlegm due to heat from drinking. 3. Real Spleen Bulk: warming yang and strengthening the spleen, promoting qi and diuresis (facilitating the flow of gases, thus promoting the flow of water and liquids). It is used for treating yin-liquid with deficiency of spleen and kidney yang (deficiency of yang qi in the spleen and kidney) and internalized water retention. Symptoms include swelling below half of the body, lack of warmth in the hands and feet, lack of thirst in the mouth, fullness in the chest and abdomen, loose stools, whitish and greasy tongue coating, and sunken, stringy and sluggish pulse. This formula is not suitable for those with Yang Shui. If there is any discomfort, prompt medical attention is recommended. If medication is needed, it should be diagnosed by a doctor and regulated according to the doctor’s prescription.
