What are the skin symptoms of food allergies

Skin symptoms of food allergy are the appearance of windburns, redness and itching in certain parts of the body. Other common symptoms include tingling in the mouth, abnormal swelling in other parts of the body such as the lips, face, tongue or throat, respiratory symptoms such as croup, nasal congestion or difficulty breathing, digestive symptoms such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea or vomiting and dizziness, light-headedness or fainting. In severe cases, there may be swelling of the throat leading to difficulty in breathing, rapid pulse and even shock. A food allergy is a reaction of the body’s immune system that occurs within a few minutes to two hours after the patient has eaten a specific food. When the immune system recognizes the allergen, it triggers the cells to release antibodies. Even if a small amount of such food is consumed the next time, the IgE antibodies react quickly and release histamine, leading to allergy symptoms. Some food allergies may also delay the onset of an allergic reaction. Symptoms range from mild to severe. There is no cure for food allergy, and some patients may recover spontaneously.
