Whether low blood potassium can be completely eradicated depends on the chance of curing the primary disease. Most of the time, after treatment of the primary disease and potassium supplementation, the blood potassium level can be restored to normal.
1. Treatment of primary disease: Low potassium level can be caused by many primary diseases, and different primary diseases have different treatment methods, for example, adrenal tumor can be treated with surgery to remove adrenal tumor, and usually low potassium level will be cured through treatment of primary disease.
2. Potassium supplementation therapy: For severe low blood potassium or with obvious symptoms, potassium supplementation therapy should be carried out in time. Oral medications such as potassium chloride and potassium glutamate should be used as the mainstay of potassium supplementation. If necessary, intravenous administration should be used with special care, but the concentration of intravenous potassium supplementation should be low and the speed should be slow. Blood potassium levels can usually be normalized with treatment.
Once the diagnosis of low potassium is confirmed, the patient needs to go to the hospital for treatment, so as to avoid serious adverse effects on the body caused by long-term low potassium.
