The dosage of Gui Zhi and Zi Zi Tang is 12g of Gui Zhi, 15g of Zi Zi, 9g of Ginger, 6g of Radix et Rhizoma Glycyrrhizae, and twelve jujubes. Gui Zhi and Zi Zi Tang is a traditional Chinese medicine formula from the Treatise on Typhoid Fever, which consists of Gui Zhi, Zi Zi and Ginger. It has the efficacy of dispelling wind and warming the channels, and also has the efficacy of assisting yang and transforming dampness; it is mainly used for treating diseases such as typhoid fever for eight or nine days, wind and dampness fighting with each other, body pains and annoyance, not being able to turn around by oneself, no vomiting and no thirst, and the pulse is floating and weak, astringent, and so on. In the formula, Gui Zhi disperses the cold and passes through the collaterals, and the epiphyllum dispels wind and removes dampness (dispels wind and dampness in the body), the two medicines can be matched to disperse the wind-cold-dampness and stop paralysis and pain; ginger and jujube can regulate the Ying and Wei (making the body’s internal and external qi smooth, each in its own way), and licorice replenishes the spleen and neutralizes the middle. Epiphyllum is toxic and should be decocted first. Adverse reactions and contraindications are not known; when using this formula, caution should be exercised for those with yin deficiency and fire exuberance (deficiency of yin and essence in the body, resulting in hyperactivity of deficiency fire). Before taking this medicine, it is necessary to be guided by a doctor for diagnosis and should not be taken on its own to avoid adverse effects on the body.
