What’s a normal baby’s stool look like?

Normal stools for infants are soft golden yellow for exclusive breastfeeding and yellow or light brown lumpy stools after formula feeding or supplementation. An infant is a child less than one year old. If the child is exclusively breastfed and no other food is added, normal stools are usually soft golden yellow, occasionally greenish, about 4 times a day, with slight individual variations. If the child is formula-fed or has added complementary foods, the normal stools are yellow or light brown; if the food contains high iron content or if dark-colored vegetables are consumed, there may be green stools; if red dragon fruits are consumed, there may be red stools, and the number of bowel movements may be about once a day, with a wide range of individual variations. If your child’s stools are abnormal, have mucus, pus or blood in them, or are too frequent or too infrequent, you need to consult a doctor to check the cause.
