What’s going on with eye glare?

Glare in the eyes usually refers to a bright light source that may be surrounded by divergence or a widening of the halo that affects the clarity of vision. It is usually caused by myopia or astigmatism, refraction of light due to increased aberration, or scattering of light in the eye due to clouding of the refractive medium. If you have glare that significantly affects your ability to see or live normally, you need to go to the hospital to rule out the cause of the glare. If there is a refractive problem, glasses are needed. If there is excessive aberration, you need to reduce your activities at night. If there is a cataract, cataract surgery is required to completely eliminate it.
