What causes sudden difficulty in swallowing?

Sudden dysphagia may be caused by acute epiglottitis, acute tonsillitis, acute cerebrovascular disease and so on.
1. Acute epiglottitis: usually related to infection, allergy, injury and other factors, which can lead to frequent stimulation of the epiglottis and the surrounding structures, and then cause sudden dysphagia and painful swallowing.
2. Acute tonsillitis: it may be related to infectious factors and immunity factors, due to the stimulating effect of inflammation, resulting in tonsil congestion and edema, which affects the patient’s swallowing function and may cause sudden dysphagia.
3. Acute cerebrovascular disease: commonly seen in acute cerebral infarction or cerebral hemorrhage, when the central nervous system involved in swallowing, resulting in dysfunction of the swallowing nerve, may cause sudden dysphagia, may also be accompanied by speech disorders, headache, dizziness and other symptoms.
Sudden dysphagia may also be related to other factors such as esophageal diseases, and should be treated as soon as possible after a clear diagnosis of the cause.
