Common insulin injection sites include the abdomen, lateral thighs, lateral upper arms, and lateral upper buttocks. Abdominal border: about 1 cm above the pubic symphysis, about 1 cm below the lowest rib margin, and 2.5 cm beyond the umbilical circumference bilaterally. Upper 1/3 of the anterolateral aspect of the anterior thighs bilaterally, the lateral upper aspect of the buttocks bilaterally, and the middle 1/3 of the lateral aspect of the upper arms. The abdomen is preferred for short-acting insulin injections at mealtimes; the buttocks can be chosen when you wish to slow down the absorption of insulin, and buttock injections minimize the risk of injecting into the muscle; and the thighs or buttocks are preferred when injecting intermediate-acting or long-acting insulin in children. If you are not sure where to inject insulin you can go to the hospital and consult a healthcare professional.
