Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) for Bronchial Asthma

Bronchial asthma generally belongs to the category of “croup” in Chinese medicine. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) treatments for bronchial asthma are mainly based on Chinese herbal medicine under the guidance of TCM diagnosis.
Asthma can be divided into exacerbation and remission, exacerbation can be divided into cold asthma and heat asthma, and remission can be divided into lung deficiency, spleen deficiency and kidney deficiency. Different tonics can be given according to different symptoms for treatment.
1. Seizure: cold asthma treatment is to promote the lungs to dispel cold, phlegm and asthma, the formula used is Sagan Ephedra Soup. Heat asthma treatment is to clear heat and promote lung, resolve phlegm and stabilize asthma, the formula used is Tingpang Tang.
2. Relief period: the treatment of lung deficiency is to tonify the lung and benefit the qi, and the formula used is Yu Ping Feng San. The treatment of spleen deficiency is to strengthen the spleen and benefit the qi, and the formula used is Liujunzi Tang. The treatment for kidney deficiency is to tonify the kidney and hold the qi (treating the kidney’s failure to hold the qi by tonifying the kidney), and the formula used is Jin Gui Ren Qi Wan (Golden Chamber Kidney Qi Pill).
The Chinese herbal medicines used for bronchial asthma should be taken under a doctor’s diagnosis and should not be used indiscriminately.
