What does a bone marrow aspiration test for?

Bone marrow aspiration is an important adjunctive test for hematologic disorders. It is commonly used to diagnose hematologic disorders, such as: causes of anemia, such as iron deficiency anemia, megaloblastic anemia, and aplastic anemia. As well as other hematologic disorders, such as leukemia, specific typing of leukemia, thrombocytopenic purpura, multiple myeloma, bone marrow metastasis of tumors and other diseases. Bone marrow aspiration is also used to identify the cause of unexplained fever, to perform bone marrow chromosome tests, and for bacterial culture.
