How Meningiomas Are Graded

Meningiomas can be generally divided into three levels, grade one is benign meningioma, grade two is atypical meningioma, and grade three is intermediate or malignant meningioma.
1. Benign meningioma: benign meningioma accounts for about 65~80% of all meningiomas, which is characterized by long survival period, low recurrence rate and slow growth. Most of the patients with this kind of tumor can be treated by surgical resection, which can achieve satisfactory therapeutic effect.
2. Atypical meningioma: the recurrence rate and aggressiveness of atypical meningioma are between benign and malignant tumors, and the average recurrence rate is about 40% in five years.
3. Malignant meningioma: malignant meningioma or mesenchymal meningioma belongs to grade 3 and is characterized by high aggressiveness and high recurrence rate. Malignant meningioma is not sensitive to chemotherapy and has a low cure rate.
It is recommended that patients suffering from meningioma should seek timely medical treatment under the guidance of doctors to avoid further aggravation of the condition.
