Long Bone Oyster Gui Zhi Gan Cao Tang, also known as Gui Zhi Gan Cao Long Bone Oyster Tang, or simply Gui Gan Dragon Oyster Tang, is effective in warming heart yang, tranquilizing the mind and calming palpitations, and works to treat palpitations (rapid heartbeat, often accompanied by panic) and insomnia caused by insufficient heart yang. As its name suggests, Gui Gan Long Mou Tang is composed of Gui Zhi, Glycyrrhiza glabra, Long Bone and Oyster. In this formula, Gui Zhi is the principal medicine, which can not only warm and invigorate the heart yang, but also warm and circulate the blood veins to smooth the blood flow; Licorice is the ministerial medicine, which can replenish the heart qi, combining with Gui Zhi’s pungency and sweetness to transform the yang and warm and replenish the heart; and secondly, it can strengthen the spleen qi, and provide resources for the middle jiao, so as to make the qi and blood have a source. Dragon’s bones and oysters are used as adjuvants to calm the mind and stabilize palpitation. The combination of the four drugs can achieve the effect of warming and tonifying heart yang, tranquilizing the mind and calming palpitation, and is used in the treatment of heart yang deficiency, restlessness, palpitation and insomnia, fear of cold limbs (fear of cold, cold limbs), shortness of breath and sweating, etc. It is contraindicated in patients with heart yin deficiency and dryness and irritability.
