Are glassy lung nodules serious?

Glassy lung nodules are formally referred to as ground glass lung nodules. Ground glass lung nodules are more serious if they are malignant and less serious if they are benign or infected.
If the nodule is less than 5mm and has no bad pattern such as burr or lobulation, it is mostly a benign nodule, which has little effect on health and life expectancy and is usually not serious; it is usually associated with infection, chronic inflammation, vascular exudation, etc., and anti-inflammatory treatment can be given.
If the ground-glass nodule is between 6~8mm, or larger than 8mm, and accompanied by pleural pulling sign, lobulation, short burr and other changes, it is mostly malignant nodule, which has a more serious impact; with its gradual increase and metastasis, the patient will have cough, chest pain, hemoptysis, emaciation and other symptoms, and even systemic failure, which can be life-threatening; surgical treatment, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, targeted therapy and so on should be timely selected according to individual conditions.
Patients should regularly review the CT of lungs and consult the doctor in time if they feel unwell.
