What causes numbness in the toes of the elderly

Numbness in the toes of the elderly may be physiological factors, or may be diabetes, lumbar disc herniation and other pathologic factors.
1. Physiological factors: If the shoes are too small for the feet, sleeping for a long time pressure or walking for a long time, etc., it can lead to poor blood circulation in the toe area, which will lead to numbness.
2. Pathological factors:
(1) Diabetes: If the elderly suffer from diabetes, it can lead to peripheral neuropathy, which can involve any part of the nervous system, with peripheral neuropathy being the most common, and the patients often have abnormal sensation of the limbs, such as numbness, burning, pins and needles, or the feeling of stepping on cotton, and so on.
(2) Lumbar intervertebral disc herniation: it can lead to nerve root damage, which results in abnormal sensation, decreased muscle strength and abnormal reflexes in its innervated area, which can be manifested as numbness of toes, and patients can also experience back pain and lumbar stiffness.
Elderly people with numbness in toes should go to the hospital in time if the symptoms persist or if they have other uncomfortable symptoms, so as not to miss the condition.
