Thyroid nodule grade 5 is usually an ultrasound classification that refers to the ultrasound evaluation rating of thyroid nodules (TIRADS). Thyroid nodule TIRADS grade 5 suggests a high degree of malignancy, with a probability of malignancy of greater than 90%, which means that the probability of benignity is only about 10%.
Thyroid nodule TIRADS grade 5 suggests ultrasound-guided puncture biopsy to clarify the nature of the nodule, and if malignant, surgery is needed. If the nodule is benign, it can be examined regularly. Benign nodules with compression symptoms also require surgery.
Hyperthyroidism can be relieved by taking drugs that inhibit thyroid synthesis, such as propylthiouracil, and iodine radiation therapy; hypothyroidism can be treated by taking levothyroxine.
Patients with grade 5 thyroid nodules are advised to consult a specialist for further treatment.
