Nose ventilation sometimes can not smell the smell, may be due to the occurrence of olfactory dysfunction, the main reason for organic lesions, geriatric olfactory dysfunction, drugs and chemicals effects, radiation therapy damage and other causes.
1. Organic lesions: such as viral infection, head trauma, brain or nerve tumors, intracranial surgery and other causes of olfactory nerve damage, can cause olfactory conduction pathway blockage, which can lead to olfactory abnormalities or olfactory dysfunction and so on.
2. Degeneration of olfactory nerve: For example, elderly patients, due to the decline of body functions, may have neurodegenerative diseases, such as degeneration of olfactory nerve, which may cause the above mentioned manifestations.
3. Drugs and chemicals: Antithyroid drugs can induce hyposmia or loss of sense of smell. Polluted air and environment also often cause olfactory impairment. Among them, lead, mercury, carbon dioxide and other common pollutants, they either damage the olfactory end-receptors, or damage the olfactory nerve, or even cause damage to the olfactory center cerebral cortex leading to olfactory dysfunction.
4. Radiation therapy: some patients with nasal cavity malignant tumor, nasopharyngeal carcinoma and pituitary tumor have decreased sense of smell after radiotherapy. It is mostly caused by the damage of olfactory nerve and olfactory epithelium due to radiation.
Malnutrition and other reasons can also cause the above symptoms. If the above symptoms occur, patients should go to hospital for consultation in time and give targeted treatment after clarifying the reasons.
