The residue after abortion is not cleared can result in prolonged vaginal bleeding or reproductive tract infection. There are two types of abortion in early pregnancy: medical abortion and induced abortion. Patients with medical abortion suffer less pain, they take mifepristone tablets orally for the first three days at home and misoprostol tablets orally on the fourth day at the hospital. It takes two to three weeks for the membranes to be expelled. The doctor will usually advise the patient to have a repeat ultrasound two weeks after the abortion to find out if there is any residue in the uterine cavity, if the ultrasound indicates that there is no residue, the abortion is successful.
