What causes the pain in the left rib cage?

There may be multiple clinical causes of rib pain, and it is important to determine the cause of rib pain by asking whether this pain is related to breathing movements and whether touching aggravates the pain. Different management is needed depending on the etiology. If there is a history of trauma to the thoracic rib area, that is, if there is a history of trauma causing rib pain, a fracture of the rib cage should be ruled out. If there is rib pain on the left side and there is only soft tissue injury in the chest and no rib fracture or a small amount of rib fracture, internal fixation of the fracture will be performed. If the pain in the rib cage is related to respiratory movements, it may be caused by intercostal neuritis or intercostal neuralgia, which can be treated with symptomatic analgesics. Pain in the left side of the rib cage can also be caused by osteoporosis or other diseases. If organic diseases are excluded, only nerve nutrition and symptomatic treatment are needed.
