What does spinal stenosis mean?

Spinal stenosis is a series of clinical symptoms caused by the narrowing of the spinal canal, neural foramen canal, and intervertebral foramina due to various reasons, resulting in the spinal cord or nerves therein being compressed and damaged. The spinal canal is located in the spinal column and consists of the foramina, intervertebral discs, and various ligaments, within which the spinal cord and nerve roots are protected. When the spinal canal is narrowed, it causes damage to the spinal cord and nerve roots, resulting in clinical symptoms such as radiating pain, sensory numbness, abnormal reflexes, and abnormal muscle strength. Common causes of stenosis include congenital developmental abnormalities, degenerative diseases, and trauma. Its treatment mainly includes rest, braking, conservative treatment, surgical treatment and so on. Patients with spinal stenosis should usually pay attention to the correct sitting and standing posture, avoid heavy physical activities and strenuous exercise, and avoid frequent bending and squatting. When pain, numbness, radiating pain in the limbs and other uncomfortable symptoms, should promptly seek medical attention to clarify the cause of the disease, under the guidance of the doctor for standardized treatment.
