Is parotid gland tumor serious? Can it be cured?

The severity and curability of parotid tumors depend on the nature of the parotid tumor and whether it invades the peripheral nerves. Parotid tumor is a general term for benign and malignant tumors occurring in the parotid gland, which have the highest incidence among salivary gland tumors and are classified as benign and malignant. The most common benign tumors are mixed tumors, and the malignant ones are mainly mucoepidermoid carcinoma. It is mainly manifested as a new swelling in parotid gland area, which will have corresponding symptoms depending on the nature and extent of invasion of the tumor, such as invasion of facial nerve, which can lead to facial paralysis, facial pain and other accompanying symptoms. Surgery is usually the main treatment, and benign parotid tumors can be cured after resection; malignant parotid tumors are more serious, and surgical treatment is still the main treatment, with adjuvant radiotherapy, chemotherapy, etc. However, malignant parotid tumors are prone to local recurrence and metastasis, and the prognosis is poorer. It is suggested that patients should consult the oncology department of hospitals for further treatment after the nature of tumor is clarified through puncture biopsy and pathological examination.
