After radiotherapy for nasopharyngeal cancer, headache is possible.
As radiotherapy not only treats the lesion, but also damages the surrounding tissues and organs, for example, it damages the brain tissue of temporal lobe, which may cause cerebral edema or even cerebral necrosis of the patient, resulting in severe headache, and then radiotherapy needs to be stopped temporarily. After the lesion invades the base of the skull, the patient will also have severe headache, accompanied by nausea and vomiting.
If the headache is caused by radiation damage, surgery is usually recommended to remove the necrotic tissue. If the tumor invades the cerebral nerves and peripheral nerves and causes pain, patients need to follow the doctor’s instructions to control the pain caused by the tumor.
At the same time, patients are advised to reduce the intake of food containing nitrite, such as salted fish, preserved food and so on. Avoid overeating and greasy food; quit smoking and drinking.
