Common misconceptions about diabetes

One of the main purposes of diabetes education is to reduce the tragic cost of ignorance about diabetes. The current state of diabetes education in China is very backward and there are many patients who are still ignorant of the disease many years after they have had it. Many people do not know how to check and how to properly manage their diabetes. In addition, the deceptive propaganda of witch doctors and fake drugs can still be seen frequently in the society, which often lead the treatment of diabetic patients to the wrong path. All of this shows that there is a long way to go for healthy diabetes education. The following is a brief explanation of some of the most common and damaging misconceptions of patients. I have to control my water intake because I have diabetes! Diabetes is often characterized by thirst and excessive drinking. Patients often have the mistaken belief that they should control their water intake after having diabetes. Drinking a lot of water is the performance of water shortage in the body, is a protective response of the human body, after suffering from diabetes control drinking water not only can not treat diabetes, but make diabetes more serious, can cause ketoacidosis or hypertonic coma, is very dangerous. 1, drinking water is conducive to the excretion of metabolic toxins in the body. 2, drinking water has the effect of preventing diabetic ketoacidosis. 3, ketoacidosis when more should draw a lot of water. 4.Drinking water can improve blood circulation and prevent the occurrence of cerebral thrombosis in elderly patients. 5, severe renal dysfunction, urine less, edema, to properly control the priming of water. Chinese medicine root cure diabetes! The medical profession has not yet found a cure for diabetes, and the same is true for Chinese medicine. The Chinese medicine is profound, and the medicinal properties of Chinese medicine are complex, and the therapeutic effect on diabetes is yet to be further studied. The more common understanding is that Chinese medicine and Chinese medicine have a certain role in the prevention and treatment of chronic complications of diabetes. However, if patients blindly believe in Chinese medicine that claims to be able to cure diabetes, and terminate the current normal treatment, the result is often empty of people and money. I only eat diabetic food! Anyone with some knowledge of diabetic diet therapy should know that the purpose of diet therapy is to control total calories and eat a balanced diet, not to eat exclusively so-called diabetic foods. In fact, the nutrients in diabetic food are no different from those in ordinary food. It is dangerous for patients who do not pay attention to the principles of diabetic diet therapy and think that their blood sugar will be fine as long as they eat diabetic food. Insulin is an opiate, and I am determined not to take it! For patients with type 1 diabetes, because oral medications are not effective for them, they have no choice but to receive insulin therapy in order to survive. For type 2 diabetic patients who need insulin therapy, it is often a headache for many doctors to convince them to accept insulin therapy. The reason is that these patients have a deep-rooted but very wrong idea: insulin is an opiate, and after taking it, they can never leave it. The main reason for this deep-rooted belief is that we used to give two types of diabetes very misleading names; insulin-dependent diabetes and non-insulin-dependent diabetes. For this reason these two inappropriate names have been gradually abandoned by the medical community. In addition, misinformation and propaganda by many lay doctors are also important reasons for this misconception. Insulin is a normal hormone in the body, and normal people produce and secrete a large amount of insulin every day because it is needed. type 1 diabetes can never produce insulin by itself, so it needs to be treated with foreign insulin for life; type 2 diabetes has a relative lack of insulin in the body, so at first oral medication can be used to promote the production and action of insulin in the body, but more than half of them will be stimulated by long-term medication. However, more than half of them will eventually fail due to long-term drug stimulation, and need to be treated with external insulin. Therefore, insulin treatment is completely dependent on the needs of the disease, and insulin is a normal human hormone, so why can we use something like opium to describe it? After using insulin in type 2 diabetes, insulin can still be withdrawn again. The human pancreas, which has been under the stimulation of oral medication for a long time, can get a good rest after using foreign insulin. After the function of the pancreas is restored for a period of time, some patients may still continue to receive medication stimulation and play the role of insulin secretion.
