Sarsaparilla is the dried rhizome of Sarsaparilla, family Liliaceae, which is flat in nature with sweet, slightly bitter and astringent flavor. The effects of Sarsaparilla include inducing dampness and removing turbidity, dispelling wind and paralysis, and detoxifying and dispersing blood stasis. Patients with symptoms such as gonorrhea, profuse discharge, boils and carbuncles, rheumatism and paralysis can take it under the guidance of a physician.
According to “Bie Lu”, this product is “the master of cold pain in the waist and back, wind paralysis, benefiting blood and qi, and stopping small convenience”. The adverse reactions and contraindications of Sarsaparilla are not clear at present.
Sarsaparilla should be used under the guidance of a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner, and should not be used on its own to avoid adverse consequences.
