Venipuncture is usually performed in the superficial vein of the dorsum of the hand or wrist if it is used for an infusion, or in the superficial vein of the dorsum of the foot or ankle. For venipuncture to draw blood, it is usually recommended to use the vein at the elbow. For long-term infusions or infusions of highly stimulating medications, deep or central venous cannulation may be required, and the internal jugular vein, the femoral vein in the groin, and the subclavian vein may be selected for deep venous puncture and placement. Therefore, there are many sites for venipuncture, and it is important to choose the most appropriate site for venipuncture depending on the medical treatment required.
