What’s wrong with the left side of my ribs?

Left side rib pain on exertion is due to rib fracture, costochondritis, soft tissue injury, acute pleurisy and so on.
1. Rib fracture: the continuity of ribs is damaged due to violent injury or pathologic fracture, chest pain is the common symptom, and the pain will be aggravated when exerting.
2. Costal chondritis: there may be no clear cause, or secondary to trauma, infection, etc. It is a non-specific infection, manifested by swelling and pain in chest wall, limitation of activity, and pain aggravated by exertion.
3. Soft tissue injury: such as intercostal muscle strain can involve the intercostal nerve, which in turn causes pain at the ribs, which is more obvious when pressing or exerting force. Or chronic strain leads to muscle injury, the formation of aseptic inflammation, may also appear rib pain when exertion.
4. Acute pleurisy: Pathogenic bacterial infection involving the pleura can lead to acute pleurisy, chest pain is one of the symptoms, for the discomfort of the infected area or tingling, which can be manifested as rib pain on exertion.
If the left side of the ribs hurt with exertion, there are other reasons, such as trauma, rib tumors, etc., we should go to the hospital in time to find out the cause and then treat or deal with it, so as not to delay the condition.
