Can dampness and heat cause insomnia?

Insomnia belongs to the category of “insomnia” in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), and dampness and heat may cause insomnia.
In Chinese medicine, insomnia is called insomnia. The causes of insomnia include emotional disorders, dietary disorders, fatigue, over-anxiety, and physical weakness after illness. The disease is mainly located in the heart and is closely related to the kidney, liver and spleen.
The disease mechanism is divided into real and imaginary. The real disease is mainly caused by internal disturbance of phlegm and heat, liver depression and fire (the Qi of the liver is impassable leading to the production of fire and heat), and yang is not allowed to enter the yin, while the imaginary disease is caused by the heart’s deficiency and timidity, the heart and kidney are not in communication (the heart’s fire is strong, the kidney’s yin is weak, and the physiological functions of the heart and the kidney are in disarray), and there are deficiencies in the heart and the spleen, and the heart and the kidney are not nourished, and there is a lack of help from the fire and water, and the yin is weak, and the yin is not able to contain the yang.
Insomnia for a long time will be mixed with deficiency, deficiency of qi, blood, yin and yang are interconnected and transformed with dampness, phlegm and fire. Dietary impurity, injury to the spleen and stomach, and internal depression of dampness and heat disturb the heart and spirit leading to insomnia, so dampness and heat may lead to insomnia.
Insomnia belongs to the pathology of the heart and spirit, and sleep hygiene and spiritual regulation should be emphasized in the prevention of insomnia. If it has seriously affected life and work, one should seek medical treatment in time.
