Basic information】Female, 33 years old
Type of disease】Wind-heat attacking the lung
Hospital】Xiyuan Hospital, Chinese Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine
Date of Consultation】August 2020
Treatment plan】Oral medication (Yin Qiao San plus reduction, Gan Qiao Tang) + TCM physical therapy (cupping, acupuncture)
Treatment Period】6 days, follow up for discomfort
Effect】The disease has been cured, cough, sore throat, yellow pus sputum and fever disappeared.
I. Initial consultation
The patient, Ms. Wang, 33 years old, reported symptoms of cough, coughing yellow pus sputum and sore throat with no obvious cause 3 days ago, felt feverish, and her body temperature was 37.6℃.
The patient’s body temperature was 37.9°C. The patient’s tongue was red with a thin yellow coating, and the pulse was floating.
II. Treatment history
After informing the patient of the details of his condition, he explained that the cough, sore throat, yellow pus sputum, and fever that he had recently exhibited were due to the invasion of the lung by foreign heat and the loss of lung qi, and that he should promptly clear the heat, detoxify the lung, and regulate the lung.
The patient was then prescribed Chinese patent medicines, including Yin Qiao San plus minus and Gan Qiao Tang, both of which are effective in clearing heat, dipping fire, and clearing the lung, which can help to get rid of the heat evil in the lung and regulate the lung. In addition, Mitsubishi needles are sterilized and needled at the patient’s acupuncture points such as Dazhi, Hegu, Lung Yu, and Shuze, and cupping is performed at the Dazhi point, thus achieving the purpose of dipping the heat in the lung.
III. Treatment effect
On the second day of in-hospital treatment, the patient’s symptoms of cough, sore throat and yellow pus sputum were reduced, and his body temperature was measured at 36.9°C. His body temperature had returned to normal at this time, and he had no other adverse symptoms. On the 6th day of in-hospital treatment, his body temperature was measured at 36.6℃, and his body temperature was normal. The symptoms of cough, sore throat and yellow pus sputum disappeared, and the patient was clear and in good mental condition.
IV. Notes
I felt very relieved to see the patient discharged from the hospital in good health. For the sake of the patient’s health, the patient was discharged from the hospital with the following points of attention.
1. Drink more warm water and increase or decrease clothing according to weather changes to avoid getting cold and becoming weak, which will increase the chance of invasion of external evil.
2. If you find that you have abnormal symptoms such as cough and fever again after returning home, you should immediately consult a doctor and take appropriate treatment measures in combination with the evidence of the disease.
V. Personal insight
The patient in this case took antipyretic drugs after feeling feverish at the early stage of wind-heat-induced lung disease, but the symptoms were not significantly relieved because the antipyretic drugs were only symptomatic treatment and did not remove the heat from the patient’s body, which shows the importance of treating the cause of the disease. In addition, if you find that you have obvious symptoms, you should seek medical advice and treatment in a timely manner to avoid misdiagnosis or incorrect medication as a priority, and thus reduce your discomfort caused by the disease as soon as possible.
